Hi, I'm Fiona and I'm a Project Leader for WISE Mentoring!

I grew up in Dundee and currently finishing an undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of Glasgow. I am driven by reducing inequality in Scotland in every way possible. Character education, wellbeing mentoring and youth empowerment are crucially missed in our current school curriculums, with earlier intervention the better.

My role is running of one of our weekly 1-1 mentoring projects for Primary 6 and Primary 7 kids. I organise enriching activities and create a safe space for discussions around resilience, self-control and growth mindset. I manage a lovely team of volunteer mentors and communicate progress of the mentees to the school and their parents. I also help out with mentor training and community events, working alongside Hana, WISE’s Programmes Director; Amy, Community Outreach Director; Lucy, Programme Manager; and Amelia, Isla and Jupiter, the other Project Leaders.

Over the course of a year, it is a privilege to see these mentees flourish, becoming more confident and empowered in themselves. Transitioning to high school is also a special time for our mentees, bringing its own challenges, and so supporting them to tackle this next phase is really an honour.

I myself have learnt so much from my time with this organisation, beginning as a volunteer mentor and now leading at the same partner school. I am so grateful to be part of this wonderful team delivering meaningful work in the development of youth in Scotland.
